A weekend of birding before the big spring "waves" come in.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Willington, Jorge and Sebastian reported several returning migrants!

Louisiana Waterthrush
Veery
Pine Warbler
Palm Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler

Over the same period of time, Sue and Karen were in Durham, NH by way of Plum Island (Parker River National Wildlife Refuge) in Newburyport, MA. We too have a good list of birds to report.
So, do I put the highlights first?
I'll list the returning migrants first perhaps, which of course ARE the highlights for all of us birders who've suffered through the long snowy winter and finally come out the other side - hooray!

Hermit Thrush
Grey Catbird
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Pine Warbler
Palm Warbler
Field Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
and last but most exciting, a life bird for me
White-eyed Vireo, Vireo griseus

In the marshes and woodland ponds we had lots of good waterbirds:

Northern Pintail
Northern Shoveler
Green-winged Teal
Gadwall
Pied-billed Grebe
Greater Yellowlegs
Dunlin
and last but most exciting, and also new for my North American lifelist
White-faced Ibis, Plegadis chihi

For raptors, probably the most exciting was the high number of migrating
American Kestrel

Today, Monday, Karen reports from our yard
Black-and-white Warbler
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher
